Aloha Journey
Behind the Aloha Journey is where I share the artistry and restoration that shape RedARTbox. As an artist, educator, and VW collector for nearly 40 years, I’ve blended my love for classic air‑cooled Volkswagens with my creative practice. This VW Bus is more than a project, it’s my rolling sculpture and traveling gallery. Even while being restored piece by piece, she remains on the road every day, carrying aloha with every mile. Alongside her, I hand‑build RedARTbox displays as sculptural works that transform spaces into living showcases of creativity, inviting people into the journey.
Crossing the Pacific
We first brought Jenny into our lives during the pandemic. Katana quickly made her part of daily life, attending online school and Zoom classes inside the bus. She gave her the name Jenny, a tribute to her favorite movie Forrest Gump. At that time, Jenny wore red on the top and white on the bottom. Over months of labor, I carefully removed the paint to reveal her original Sea Bleu finish, giving her a unique patina look. After spending a few years in storage, we brought her out, shipped her from Hilo, Hawai‘i to California, and began giving her a new look. But Jenny isn’t meant to sit still, she’s built to be a daily driver, rolling through the restoration journey while carrying aloha every mile.
Restoring Jenny
For nearly four decades, I’ve been immersed in the world of classic air‑cooled Volkswagens. Jenny reflects that lifelong passion, she’s more than transportation, she’s a canvas for storytelling. What makes her restoration unique is that she’s evolving on the road, not hidden away in storage. Every mile adds to her character, transforming a beloved classic into a traveling gallery that grows with each stage of the journey.

Built by hand, they are designed to anchor the collector’s journey and transform partner shops into living showcases of art and aloha. While people often ask if they’re for sale, they’re not, these displays are signature works that remain part of the RedARTbox experience.
